Potato Plum Dumplings with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Honey Sauce

This is one of those recipes that reminds me of my childhood. It tastes just like fall on a plate, so we have added this recipe to our family regulars especially during the colder months.




You'll need

  • 900g potatoes
  • 250g flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp of sea salt
  • 12 medium plums
  • 0,5 cup of brown sugar
  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbs of honey
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  • greek yogurt (optional)

Here's how

  1. Wash potatoes and boil them with peel on.
  2. To pit the plums: slice them almost in half, open, remove pit and place about 1/3 tsp of brown sugar in the hollow of each plum.
  3. For sauce: melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, add cinnamon, honey and the rest of the brown sugar, stir until smooth.
  4. When potatoes are done and completely cool, remove peel and finely shred them into a large bowl.
  5. Mix together the prepared potatoes, flour, eggs and salt until the dough feels smooth and elastic.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Holding one piece of dough in your hand, place a whole pitted plum in the center, then seal it and shape the dough into a ball.
  8. To cook: bring a deep pot of water to boil, place the plum dumplings into the pot (4 at a time) and boil gently for about 10 minutes (until they rise to the surface)
  9. Serve hot with the sweet cinnamon honey sauce (you can also add some plain greek yogurt)
